A huge congratulations
to our U13 team which defeated Marconi 1-0 in the Grand Final.
This is the first
time in the club’s
long history that one of our Premier Youth team has won a Grand
Final.
This match
report courtesy of Football
NSW says it all.
I would also like to take the opportunity
now that the season has finished to thank all the team coaches,
managers and
parents for
all the great work and support given for the boys to develop
and enjoy their football at an elite level.
Unfortunately, despite the creditable
performance of our youth teams and some stand out representative
achievements
by a number
of boys, we find ourselves in the position of a possible
relegation from Premier League.
The Football NSW championship point system
does not recognise the development and performance of the youth
teams when
it comes to
maintaining Premier Youth League status, instead it ties
it to the questionable weighted performance points given
for the
senior
first grade, U20 and U18 teams.
This ‘club’ championship
points system allows some clubs to cynically focus on
their senior performance results
to the detriment of the development and mentoring of
their youth teams. Hopefully , the recent establishment of a
review committee
may change that for next season.
Lastly, I would like to thank all the
people at the Berries who have supported me through the season/s
and caringly
contributed in my endeavours to manage the youth
league operations with
integrity
and an essence of professionalism.
I wish each boy success in their own
football endeavours for next season be it with the Berries or
with another
club and
I hope that
this season has been a learning , rewarding and enjoyable
one.
